CLUB STATEMENT
13 OCTOBER 2021
Further to the Club announcement last month about recruiting for a Head of Football, the Savige Pest Control Ipswich Jets are delighted to announce Ben Cross has been appointed in this role.
Ben has had a vast career within rugby league from playing in amateur grades through to playing at the highest level of professional sport, winning the 2007 NRL premiership with the Melbourne Storm, reserved grade premiership with the Canberra Raiders in 2003 and played State of Origin Rugby League for New South Wales, whilst representing Australia in the Prime Ministers XII.
Since retiring, Ben has had great success as an Assistant Coach and Head Coach, winning the ISC NSW Cup competition, Newcastle premiership competition and enjoying success within the NSW Women’s Origin series. He has since added to his sporting experience through an Advance Diploma in Business Leadership and Management whilst also owning and developing a small cleaning franchise. Therefore, Ben very much understands the demands of being in elite sport and balancing a home and work life.
Recently, Ben has been a Specialist Consultant Coach to the PNG Hunters which was similar to the role he had with the Brisbane Broncos up until March 2020 – being responsible for planning & implementation of training programs specific to individuals designed around the Brisbane Broncos coaching and playing objectives, as well as defence specialist contact and tackle technique coaching.
Ben will oversee the day to day running of the Football department in 2022 and beyond, overseeing all Grades within our system and the Head Coaches that have day to day contact with those teams. He will be responsible for pathways in and out of the club, and will be leading this from the front, as Head Coach of our senior side. Ben will be active in the community and schools as well as with local clubs, to ensure that the Ipswich Jets is the club of choice in this region. This position will also collaborate very closely with the
High-Performance Manager and be further supported by our other support staff including Assistant coaches, physios, trainers, volunteers, and team managers.
The Savige Pest Control Ipswich Jets are delighted to welcome someone of Bens calibre to the club and are extremely excited about what the future will bring, acknowledging all of the hard work that has been done to this point, by the people and staff that have come before him.
