The Ipswich Jets showed the attacking flair they are becoming famous for with their impressive win over the Central Queensland Capras in their Round 15 match on Saturday.
Chris Walker was a late omission for the home side with Richard Pandia coming into the Jets’ side; but that didn’t really seem to affect the side who quickly got on with the business of scoring points.
The attacking carnage started in the first set of the game and after three minutes the Jets’ centre Nemani Valekapa brought up his 100th Intrust Super Cup point in his 50th game for the Jets.
The Carlin Anderson conversion was successful and the Jets led 6-0 after three minutes.
If you thought you had time to grab some hot chips before the next try, you would have still been in the line when the Jets again exploited the Capras’ right side defence and Dane Phillips scored under the posts. Again Anderson slotted the extra points and it was looking bleak for the Central Queensland team at 12-0 after four minutes.
The Jets kept the Capras guessing and went to the right hand side where Kurt Capewell found some space and then found his fifth try this year for an 18-0 lead after nine minutes.
Anderson wasn’t just happy kicking goals and took his kicking game on the road, kicking infield for a flying Phillips who had his second try inside the first 13 minutes. Anderson calmly slotted the conversion and it was 24-0 after 13 minutes.
From the scrum the Jets attacked to the left and found Valekapa who scored his second try, while Anderson failed to convert and the Jets led 28-0.
There was still one try left before the break for the Jets and they finished the half off 36-0 up after taking the two points from a penalty right in front at halftime.
Anderson started the second half by dropping on the ball in the in-goal to score his first try of the afternoon and get the Jets back on the board.
Not many things are better in league than a player who can turn defence into attack before anyone even knows; and Carlin Anderson is that guy. Anderson picked up the ball and ran 80m to score his second try of the second half and take the Jets out to 44-0.
He wasn’t finished there and followed up on the inside to pounce on a Capewell kick to score his third try and take the Jets to 48-0.
The Capras finally stopped the bleeding when Hayden Buckman scored and took the Capras to 48-6.
Phillips however got it back for the Jets when he found Capewell out wide and the Jets had wrapped up the game 52-6.
This weekend, the Jets will travel to Cairns to play the Pride while the Capras will travel to PNG to take on the Hunters.
