It is with much excitement that the Savige Pest Control Ipswich Jets can announce that former player of the 2015 Ipswich Jets BRL Premiership winning side, Christopher Ash, will take the reins as Head Coach of the University of Southern Queensland Ipswich Jets Colts in 2021.

Chris, known as Ashy to many, has been with the Ipswich Jets since his debut as a Colt in 2011. His playing career saw him progress into our BRL side, before making his debut in the Intrust Super Cup competition in 2015. Chris continued to play for the Ipswich Jets Intrust Super Cup team until 2019, where he then played for Brothers Rugby League Club Ipswich in their premiership winning A Grade side, in the Rugby League Ipswich Competition.

Chris has played in the green and white of the Ipswich Jets for more than 150 games, playing at most levels of the Queensland Rugby League state Competitions. With his under 18’s Mal Meninga, Colts, BRL and Intrust Super Cup experiences, Chris has been an important part of the Jets family for many years.

CEO Richard Hughes said, “It is with great excitement to announce Chris as Head Coach for the USQ Ipswich Jets Colts for 2021. Chris comes to us with a wealth of playing and coaching experience in rugby league and will be a wonderful asset to the club. We are excited to see what he and his team will bring to our club, our partners and our supporters”.

Mr. Hughes continued, “In welcoming Chris, we would also like to thank former Ipswich Jets Colts Head Coach, Brendon Marshall, for his hardworking efforts, time and tenure with the club, over the past two seasons at the helm.” Brendon will continue to be a part of the club going into 2021.

The Savige Pest Control Ipswich Jets Chairman, Steve Johnson, remarked, “It’s a thrill having any former player give back to this great club, but seeing Chris return as a Head Coach, is especially exciting, for all at the Jets”. Mr Johnson continued, “Chris has a huge rugby league IQ and embraces the Jets person before player values so I can’t wait to see him develop our next generation of Jets as people and as players. Those players are going to have a great and memorable season with Chris and his team.”
