HAVING received plenty of support from Jets clubmates in yesterday’s memorable victory, Todd Brown hopes the whole of Ipswich gets behind his team this weekend.
It’s for good reason.
Ipswich has an exciting side on the rise. The team is involved in a massive afternoon of state competition rugby league grand finals at the North Ipswich Reserve on Sunday.
The Jets FOGS Cup side will wave the flag for the club and the city after shellshocking Norths 38-24 at Langlands Park.
It was the Jets first win over the Devils this season and one coach Brown saw coming.
“We’ve spoken about attitude for about three weeks now,” a delighted Brown said sharing the emotion of yesterday’s dominant win.
“We’ve played Norths three or four times throughout the year and we probably never turned up to play on those days and got close to them. So we always knew we could beat them.
“Across the board, 17 of them turned up and did the job.
“I’m very happy. The boys are rapt.”
The Jets won without skipper Kevin Bell who withdrew due to a back injury.
Luke Pollock stepped into the number six role and impressed with a two-try performance.
Brown said his squad of 20 would enjoy the week before focusing of winning the club’s first FOGS Cup grand final when they tackle minor premiers Easts.
“It’s a good atmosphere, a good feel at the moment,” Brown said.
“We’ll prepare as normal, nothing will change. There’s just a bit more excitement.
“This is what the boys play football for – for this week coming up.”
Brown said his players appreciated the support of the club’s Queensland Cup and colts players yesterday.
However, the Jets hope to see thousands of cheering home fans when they line up in Sunday’s grand final.
The Jets dominated yesterday’s game after leading 16-0 at halftime courtesy of tries to Jake Busby, Josh Seage and Pollock.
Norths came back before halftime and scored three late consolation tries. However, the Jets had the game in their grip after leading 38-10.
One of the Jets’ best tries was from fullback Josh Veivers, who stole the ball in a one-on-one tackle. He raced away to score.
Billy McConnachie helped seal victory from his try after the Norths fullback spilt a towering Khan Ahwang bomb.
