Ipswich Jets Code of Conduct
Background and Purpose
The Ipswich Jets:
- are committed to building a culture of respect, professionalism, and community engagement.
- have a recruitment policy that the Jets contract players and staff who are strong in character, and aware of and meet the Ipswich community’s expectations of its marquee sports Jets; and
- with its players and staff have together developed this Code of Conduct (“the Jets Code”) that its players and staff must maintain so that the basic strong moral fabric of the Jets is kept.
The Jets Code is an addition to the Code of Conduct of the sport that a Jet is participating in.
By accepting the privilege of becoming a Jet you are expected to uphold this code of conduct at all times.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of personal presentation and behaviour.
- Avoid the use of offensive, abusive, or discriminatory language or behaviour.
- Always wear the correct Jets apparel when on Jets business or when the Jets are represented and maintain a neat, professional appearance.
- If appropriate hold or obtain a valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card in QLD).
- Not engage in any relationship that creates a conflict of interest within the organisation.
- Treat Jets venues, sponsors, partners, and the public with respect and professionalism.
- Hold a job, be actively looking for work, or studying.
Health and Wellbeing
- Actively participate in any Jets health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Attend mandatory wellbeing events and education sessions.
- Complete required surveys and check-ins related to mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing.
- Support teammates and colleagues and seek assistance when needed.
- Support the Jets Wellbeing Managers when undertaking engagements, activations or initiatives.
- Contact the Jets Wellbeing Manager if you or someone else need support.
Sports Responsibilities
- Attend all required training sessions, match, and team meetings punctually unless excused.
- Treat facilities, equipment, and Jets property with care and respect.
- Follow lawful and reasonable directions from coaches, captains, and Jets leadership.
- Avoid actions or behaviour that may bring the Jets or sport into disrepute.
- Respect the game, officials, opponents, and all age grades.
- Keep management informed of any personal changes affecting your availability.
- Comply fully with governing body contracts of the sport you participate in.
Public Conduct
- Treat everyone with respect, regardless of gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
- Always conduct yourself in a professional and respectful manner, especially when in public.
- Avoid illegal activity or any conduct likely to damage the Jets’ reputation.
- Never abuse or disrespect teammates, officials, the media, or the public.
- Maintain appropriate behaviour on team trips, including respecting accommodation arrangements.
Sponsors and Partners
- Support the Jets sponsors through your behaviour and public interactions.
- Participate in sponsor-related events and obligations as directed.
- Not enter individual sponsorships without the Jets approval.
- Promote Jets sponsors appropriately when required and acknowledge their contribution.
Drugs and Alcohol
- Never use illegal or prohibited performance-enhancing drugs or substances.
- Never attend any Jets commitments under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Adhere to all drug-testing and anti-doping policies.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Gambling and Integrity
- Do not engage in betting or match fixing in any form related to the sport you participate in.
- Do not accept bribes or incentives to influence the outcome of any match or competition.
- Do not gamble or place bets in any way related to the sport you participate in.
Respect
- Treat all individuals with dignity and courtesy, regardless of their background, role, or affiliation.
- Uphold an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity across age, gender, race, religion, ability, and sexual orientation.
- Act with professionalism by supporting your colleagues constructively in their roles, not by critiquing, undermining, or overstepping them.
- Actively listen to others and provide constructive feedback without hostility or bias.
- Demonstrate sportsmanship, whether winning or losing, and show appreciation for teammates, opponents, officials, and supporters.
Social Media and Communications
- Use social media responsibly and never share confidential or harmful content.
- Avoid posting, liking or commenting on anything that may bring the Jets into disrepute.
- Engage with official Jets communication platforms as required.
Confidentiality
- Respect all confidential Jets information.
- Report on any internal concerns that could impact on the performance, safety, or reputation of the Jets.
