Helping others is the goal at Mylestones

One local company has spent the last 24 years helping others to find the right job, and now for the first time, they are helping the Ipswich Jets reach their goals too.

Mylestones Employment has become well known in Ipswich for their efforts in helping people with barriers to employment, find and keep the job they love.

Their 15 staff at the Ipswich office help people with anything from mental health conditions to physical disabilities to find the right job and give them support, along with on-the-job support for them and their employers.

It’s a win/win for everyone involved.

Mylestones co-ordinator Sharon Parker said that everyone involved at the Ipswich office finds that it is a rewarding line of work, which at its core, is there to help people.

“All up I’ve worked for 26 years in disability employments, and to be honest there is nothing more satisfying than having the ability to change someone’s life by assisting them to gain and maintain employment,” Ms Parker said.

“It’s not just helping them land a job though, we also support with writing resumes, sending applications and preparing for interviews. Once a client is successful, we aim to support them at work too. This could be through on-the-job support, organising workplace adjustments to desks and chairs to suit their personal needs, and just being a go-to if they have questions.

“We work with everyone in the community. If someone is looking for a job and has a barrier to employment, we want to help. Likewise, if a local business is looking for their next star employee, we probably have just the right person.”

Putting their support behind the Ipswich Jets reflects how committed the business is to Ipswich, and its residents.

“We aim to be part of the local and business communities in each of the suburbs we operate. Locally, we are a Member of Ipswich and Springfield Chamber of Commerce and now we’re very excited to be partnering with the Ipswich Jets,” Sharon said.

“Working with the Ipswich Jets is something we have wanted to do for a long time. This partnership gives us the opportunity to open up new avenues for our jobseekers to work and volunteer with the Club and gain valuable experience.

“For me, Ipswich is a hidden gem. The things that stand out the most when I think about Ipswich is the sense of community pride and spirit the people of Ipswich have. We’ve seen our fair share of challenges, but we always come together and it’s a great place to live.”
